Pregnancy-Verifying Ultrasounds
At Options Pregnancy Clinic, we understand that an unplanned pregnancy can feel overwhelming. After seeing that your pregnancy test was positive, your head might be spinning. There are so many thoughts and feelings that rush in all at once that you might be tempted to panic. Before you start to spiral, take a moment to breathe deeply. Instead of panicking, have an ultrasound to confirm that you have a viable pregnancy. We provide free first trimester ultrasounds to women who have had a positive pregnancy test in our clinic.
Ultrasound Information
An ultrasound works through the use of high-frequency sound waves to project an image of what is happening inside your uterus. This image is displayed on a screen for a medical professional to view and interpret.
How do I know if I need an ultrasound?
On site pregnancy testing in our lab is 99 percent accurate, but the only way to verify that your pregnancy is viable to carry to term is to have a first trimester ultrasound performed. Essentially, you will know that you need an ultrasound when you find out that you are pregnant. A first trimester ultrasound is a crucial step in the pregnancy decision process, regardless of the options you are considering. If you are thinking about getting an abortion, you will need to provide proof of pregnancy and information about how far along your pregnancy has progressed so the medical professionals know which types of abortion are available to you.
An ultrasound will also detect if your pregnancy is developing outside of the uterus. This is called an ectopic pregnancy, which can be extremely harmful to you if it is not addressed quickly. If we find that you have an ectopic pregnancy, we will refer you to receive immediate medical treatment.
What should I do next?
After you have confirmed your pregnancy via a first trimester ultrasound, it is time for you to think more about your options. At this point, you might not have a very clear idea of which option you are going to choose. That’s okay. The important thing to do is collect as much information as you can, so you can feel confident about the decision that you make.
